Get enchanted by the cetaceans in the Straits of Gibraltar.
These beautiful animals have been fascinating mankind since their first
encounter a long time ago. Christians used to think that whales and dolphins
were sent by the devil and believed in 'Jonah and the fish'.
In
more recent times they've been hunted almost to extinction.
Nowadays we know that these wonderful animals are highly intelligent
and deserve to be respected and protected.
In the waters near to Tarifa we have found a concentration of several
whale and dolphin species.
Daily trips.
It's a unique opportunity to meet these gentle giants and their
smaller co-species in their natural environment.
Our way of practising whale watching found a good acceptance in the
native as well as in the tourist public.
The
little lesson about the Straits and the cetaceans, given before the
trip, is usually followed with great interest.
On board everybody enjoys to feel and see these creatures, under the
guidance of our experienced marine biologists who provide plenty of information
and try to answer to any question.
Our skippers are bound to a strict non intrusive approach, aimed
at avoiding any disturbance or damage to the animals.
Of course it's always up to sea and whales whether our trips are successful
or not. In the rare case of not contacting whales or dolphins we will entitle
you to try again on a scheduled trip.
Two weeks program.
This program has been thought to allow students and cetacean lovers
to cooperate with marine biologists on the boat, gathering data on running
projects.
Given good weather conditions you will be taken out every day on our
"Firmm" boat and will gather data with the instruments you will be
in charge of. We work with GPS (exact position measuring by geo-stationary
satellites), video (to record extraordinary situations and events) and
cameras. Of course you will be well instructed in the use of these instruments.
We will be very eager to satisfy your thirst for knowledge.
You don't need any kind of special knowledge to attend the course and
we sure do hope you will leave us after the two weeks with a larger piece
of wisdom in your baggage about these animals.
In case of bad weather, which is rarely the case at this time of the
year, you will be 'entertained' with alternative programs.
Of course we will also leave you enough spare time to discover the
beautiful landscape around Tarifa and to make use of the sporting facilities
or just to hang around on the beach.
