Scuba-diving

Altough windsurfing is certainly the most predominant water sport in Tarifa, the waters of the Straits provide wide opportunity for divers.

Tarifa is an under-water paradise!
A wild and attractive sea bed, abrupt and often breath-taking, endows Tarifa and the nearby spots with a submerged garden of immense beauty, ideal for the practice of water sports.

The variety of spots, the different depths and the transparency of the water allow the practice of diving at any level.

Of course the Straits of Gibraltar and adjoining zones are synonymous to respect-imposing currents but, with the help of the local instructors, there is no reason for not taking advantage of these characteristics.
Our friends at Aky Oaky will be happy to assist you in every possible way if you're planning to dive in Tarifa waters.

There are two certified diving schools in the area.

Temperatures This table shows the average temperature of water and air in the 1992-1996 period.

Surf

There are (at times) good waves (depending on the weather, the tide and especially the wind conditions), particularly in autumn, winter, and spring.

The water temperature is pleasant, but in winter you need a long-sleeved wet-suit.

Waves are usually between half a metre and two metres high, but can reach a maximum of three metres.

You can hire boards.

Good surfing spots are:

Fishing

If you like fishing the area must be considered a good one.
At the moment we don't know a lot about this sport.
We will 'study' the subject but our suggestion is that you ask for advice directly to the fishermen in the harbour :-)
